This weekend I found myself
Driving far away
I went to a friends wedding
It was a smashing day
The ladies in their hats
The gentleman in their suites
The children with their ribbons
A violin and flutes
It all started out nice
A very posh affair
The groom in naval uniform
The bride – she is rare
As the day unfolded
And day turned into night
It was then I noticed
Something at its height
We started the day social
In a very different way
Guests all polite and timid
It was a wedding day
But with the speeches over
And the music into flow
I noticed something different
In guests in every row
Our social ways of talking
Of sharing in the day
It did all begin to change
And be shared a different way
People in celebration
Telling stories rare
The bride on the dance floor
Her dress … she didn’t care.
It made me wonder slightly
About the social ways we are
That they are never fixed
But like honey in a jar
It made wonder when
We chat and share online
Sometimes we are careful
Sometimes we are fine
But sometimes we don’t realise
The social things we do
And how these change in each day
With who we are sharing to
It changes with our purpose
If we see it as work or not
It changes with our feelings
The bad days count a lot.
So I wondered as I participated
In this very social day
How online is similar
In how we change our social way
From moment to moment
From platform product too
From task to task and context
They are many, seldom few
Like the world we live in
When we step from behind the screen
It is our social ways of living
Our manners empathy that’s seen
It is in everything we do
In our every day
It is our social ways of living
Be it at work, to learn or play.

December 29th, 2011“With the new ‘FB timeline’ on its way this week for EVERYONE…please do both of us a favour. Hover over my name above. In a few seconds you’ll see a box that says “Subscribed”. Hover over that, go to “Comments and Likes” and unclick it. That will stop my posts and yours to me from showing up on the side bar for everyone to see, but MOST IMPORTANTLY IT LIMITS HACKERS from invading our profiles. If you repost this I will do the same for you. You’ll know I’ve acknowledged you because if you tell me that you’ve done it I”ll ‘like’ it. Thanks”
My friend commented that her friends have shared an article about how the above status update that is circulating is a hoax. She gave me this link to the article on a website called thatsnonsense.com reporting it is a unfounded rumour. Upon read this article, I became aware how myself and the author differ in our understanding of the term hacker. To clarify for my friend I started to write this response in a comment on my status update. Given the length of my response, I’m sharing it here. I responded with the following. » Read more: Is Facebook a Hacker?
